On April 5, 1978, six independent shops in Edmonton, Alberta joined forces as a buying group to increase the purchasing power and volume discounts of each member. Known to suppliers as Associated Muffler & Brake Shops, the original six businesses operated as a buying group until 1994 when the founders expanded operations and discount potential by offering memberships to qualifying outlets throughout Canada.
Subsequently, the Canadian Automotive Buying Group Ltd. (AutoGroup) was formed as a bona fide buying group, the only one of its kind in Canada. In 2003, the group underwent a name change to AutoGroup (1978) Inc. AutoGroup consists of independent automotive service providers, specializing in exhaust and full automotive repair in Western Canada.
As members of the Group, individual shops have become a more effective force in an increasingly competitive marketplace while maintaining their independence.
Why Join AutoGroup?
In order to be competitive in today's marketplace it is not enough to work harder. You've got to work smarter. The independent automotive service provider can not afford to cut corners in order to cut costs. AutoGroup is dedicated to providing the independent automotive shop owner with a cost effective means of increasing profits through volume purchasing and other value-added programs. The benefit of discounts and volume rebates are paid directly to each member. There are no ongoing royalties, franchise fees or annual membership fees.

COMPUTER SOFTWARE
AutoGroup supports StockTrac Enterprise, by Janco International and Carrus Technologies Shop Management System computer software. AutoGroup member programs and pricing through APD (Western Canada) are available on these systems.
